Believe it or not, this is a very common problem in small children. A child who complains of one-sided foul smelling nasal discharge and/or a nose bleed without the typical cold symptoms will oftentimes have a foreign body lodged up inside his/her nostril. Generally, with the use of office instruments, it is fairly easy and safe to remove these objects in a cooperative child if the foreign body is not pushed too deep. Otherwise, anesthesia and an ENT specialty referral are required…..Richard R Samuel, MD Family Practice and Urgent Care Hayden, ID USA
